About Matthewson Drug Co.

Matthewson Drug Co. was established in 1908 in the heart of downtown Marshall, Texas. Through the years, there were more than 10 independent pharmacies in Marshall. Now, only one remains… Matthewson Drug Co. While multiple Marshall native pharmacists have been a part of this pharmacy’s legacy, the Bates Family has proudly owned and operated it since 1971. At that time, Jim Bates returned to his hometown to join his high school friend, Ronnie Matthews, in a partnership that lasted 30 years. Jim’s son, Brian, moved back to Marshall in 1997 and purchased the business in 2000. Brian and his wife Beckie currently own Matthewson Drug, and with their amazing family of staff, the pharmacy remains strong. In January of 2024, Matthewson Drug Co. transitioned to a specialty pharmacy serving the needs of the community with custom compounding, hospice care, longterm care services in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and now providing medication services and delivery to home bound patients living in their own homes. This latest addition to Matthewson Drug Co. is known as Pharmacy Care at Home. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to continue to care for our community.
